Hoggs Hollow

An estate enclave in the Don Valley, minutes from Yonge

Hoggs Hollow takes its name from the Hogg family. James Hogg, a Scottish miller who settled the valley in 1824, ran a whisky distillery and grist mill beside the West Branch of the Don River, and the name has held ever since. The neighbourhood sits south of York Mills Road and east of Yonge Street, wrapped around the wooded ravine where the river runs beneath the bridges of Bayview Avenue.

The hollow itself is a world apart from the city above it. Winding lanes follow the contours of the valley, houses sit deep on their lots under mature trees, and the ravine runs green through the middle of the community. It is quiet, established, and private, yet the Yonge Street corridor at York Mills is minutes away on foot.

Auberge du Pommier: The neighbourhood’s premier special-occasion restaurant. Refined French cooking is served in two restored 1860s cottages, with fireplaces, stone walls and one of North Toronto’s most polished dining rooms. Best for milestone dinners, discreet business meals and romantic evenings.

Miller Tavern: The essential Hoggs Hollow institution, occupying a historic tavern site dating to the 1860s. The menu centres on steaks, seafood and polished contemporary classics, supported by a serious wine and cocktail program. Its terrace is especially appealing in warmer weather.

Chicken Quarter: An unpretentious counter-service gem inside York Mills Centre at 4025 Yonge Street. It is known for chicken tikka, butter chicken, wraps and generous rice plates. This is the practical neighbourhood favourite rather than a luxury dining room, but it earns its place for flavour and convenience.
