Our Symbol
The White Rhinoceros
A commitment to conservation woven into the fabric of who we are.
Our Story
Why the White Rhino
Since the launch of Revolution Realty in 2013, we have adopted a white rhinoceros from the Toronto Zoo each year through the Adopt an Animal program. The white rhino symbolizes our commitment to conservation and giving back, values that are deeply woven into the fabric of our company. This commitment is reflected in our logo, which proudly features the white rhino, reminding us daily of our responsibility to make a positive impact on the world around us.
Today, fewer than 16,000 white rhinos remain in the wild. Classified as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), their numbers continue to decline due to relentless poaching for their horns and ongoing habitat loss. The illegal wildlife trade values rhino horn at more than its weight in gold, making these magnificent animals a prime target for organized criminal networks. Without sustained intervention, experts warn the species could face extinction within decades.
The Toronto Zoo stands at the forefront of the fight to save them. Home to four white rhinos, Zohari, Sabi, Tom, and the calf Kifaru, born in December 2023 in the Zoo's first-ever successful white rhino birth, the Zoo participates in the White Rhinoceros Species Survival Plan® (SSP), a coordinated international effort to maintain a healthy, genetically diverse population under human care. The Zoo is also an active partner in the American Institute of Rhinoceros Science (AIRS), contributing to groundbreaking research on rhino nutrition, health, and behaviour that directly supports conservation efforts in the wild.
Each year, our adoption contributes directly to this work, funding specialized husbandry, veterinary care, habitat enrichment, and public education programs that inspire the next generation of conservationists. It is a small but meaningful way to push back against the forces threatening one of the planet's most iconic species, and a tangible expression of our belief that business has a role to play in protecting the natural world.
The Species
About the White Rhinoceros
The white rhino is the largest living land animal after the elephant. White rhinos are characterized by a massive body, a long head carried low to the ground, and short thick legs ending in broad three-toed feet. The distinguishing feature of the white rhino is the huge muscular hump located behind its neck and its broad muzzle with a squared upper lip. Colouration is slate gray or yellowish-brown, with skin almost naked except for the ear fringes, eyelashes, and tail bristles. White rhinos possess two medial horns on the snout, one behind the other, the front horn averages about 60 cm in length but can reach more than 150 cm.
